About the class

Do you feel like you have a bad memory? Do you often tell loved ones that you will “get Alzheimer’s in your 50s”? Do you often forget important things like a key piece of info at work or a loved one’s birthday?

Good news – it’s not that you in particular have a worse memory than other people. And don’t worry, I’m not going to try to sell you a sketchy drug.

Instead, we are going to program our memory so we can remember what we want, when we want. And we are going to do it with as little review time as we can get away with.

The single biggest change that Anki brings about is that it means memory is no longer a haphazard event, to be left to chance. Rather, it guarantees I will remember something, with minimal effort. That is, Anki makes memory a choice.

This class will teach Anki best practices – we will spend most of the time designing cards. We’ll split the class time between collaboratively designing cards for a shared topic (we’ll vote to pick these) and individually for your personal topic. Outside of class time, you will have to commit to doing daily reviews, which should take on the order of ~5 minutes daily.

We will have a fun competitive game of Jeopardy during the last session (with some prizes!) to see the improvement in our memory.

Syllabus

Classes are split into three parts.
